Hi Derek,
Dont you just hate it when they do that !! when we need to we use barbaque bamboo sticks , araldite so as a little flexible, we don't imp low down, we take it high up to give it strength. We may be able to help with feathers.

I use carbon fibre rod get it in all different sizes and use gorilla glue gel, never had one come out yet.
As said always cut close to top a lot stronger and the joint is not visible.

It is brilliant stuff to use and can be filed down easy to make a good fit, but a tip always rub a file over even on bits that are not filed as it is smooth and the glue sticks better then. If you can understand what i am saying.

Carbon fibre rod is indeed great but I'd advise against cutting into the feather high up. Instead actually go about half way up and using a hand held drill bit open up the feather shaft. As mentioned, carbon fibre is wonderful at being shaped. By going half way up the feather you are offered more opportunity at re-imping should the imped feather be broken once again.

The way this thing hits into cover and will not let go it will need a bit of imping in the future.

Use the shaft of another feather for the rod.

Hi,
Never heard of carbon fiber rod, new one to me, although lucky enough not to have not to do it very often, normally on other peoples birds, Andy Hume showed us this way many years ago and have done it this way ever since.

I am curious as to how it works ?? and how it is done, any pictures of this ??
Maybe it is a new method for us to try.
