Cut them off and make new ones for next season.

Some choose to leave aylmeri and flying jesses on until hawk picked up at start of season, and then replace with the new ones.

Hi Andy, I remove the lot myself, think the birds must feel great with it all off for a few months, then just fit new at start of season. Atb. John

Hi John...

Yes I thought it must be nice not to have them on their for a few months, kind of like putting your slippers on after a hard days work.....

John

How is your moult going? When did you start?

I put mine down about 3 weeks ago

If the equipment is of good quality and fitted well it should not bother the bird. I personally like to leave the anklets with short permanent flying jesses on during the moult just in case I need to catch up a fat bird in an emergency. I then replace with new equipment when I reclaim that bird for the next season.

Mine has not dropped anything yet.. he is fat as a pig. How long does it normally take? I guess every bird is different.

This weather is still a bit cold, guessing that doesn't really move things along.

Also john, Just before I put him down to moult, I flew him after a big feed up, think he was about 1lb 12 and he was still instance, following on and also had a go at some ducks.

Seems like he will fly ok at any weight.

You've obviously got a good bond with him now mate, he may fly at that weight and even chase, but not much chance of catching lol. He will probably start dropping a few any day now. Did you end up getting a few decent kills under your belt before the season finished, what weight did he finish at. Atb. John
