Cheers Jim & Iain thanks for your reply's. I am wondering if i should do the diary on here now, has this happened on there before its to much like hard work to be lost. Perhaps there's no more room for another warts & all diary is there? all i know is that iv found various forums & groups to be a valuable source of information to help me with my eagle, even though i read every thing i could lay my hands on & bent more than a few people's ears before & after getting mine, the archives on these forums hold an immense store of knowledge which i wish i could have tapped into before, & was wondering whether to add my twopenny worth.

Go for it. I'd love to have another Eagle thread to read. The problem in the past has been that the threads end in disagreements and jealousy. I have been lucky on my thread and it's never had a problem. Just make the decision and say from the outset that if this starts to happen you will close the thread!

Please carry on and I look forward to reading about Mr Bolt

I started it like this because there doesn't seem to be any info any where on the finer points of cutting down eagles so as i was in the process of cutting mine down i could transfer this from my diary.

7/10/13 temp 9c weight 7lb-9 1/2oz at 9-00am fed 5 doc 6 1/2oz

8/10/13 temp 15c weight 7lb-9 3/4oz at 7-50am fed 5 doc 6oz, wet jess's.
although the No of chicks is quoted the weight is adjusted by some times removing heads legs or yokes.

9/10/13 temp 12c weight 7lb-7 3/4oz at 8-00am fed 5 doc 6oz.

10/10/13 temp 5c weight 7lb-7 7/8oz at 7-45am fed 5 doc 6oz, getting grippy on pick up.

11/10/13 temp 9c weight 7lb- 7 1/4oz at 8-30am fed 5 doc 6oz,
same as yesterday, spread wings slightly.

12/10/13 temp 9c weight 7lb-7 1/8oz at 8-25am fed 4 doc 5 3/4oz,
some wing flaps, but hooding & weighing ok,

13/10/13 temp 9c weight 7lb-6 5/8oz at 9-25am fed 4 doc 5 1/2oz
Nothing to report, rainy weather seems to subdue him.

14/10/13 temp 5c weight 7lb-6 1/2oz at 7-55am fed 4 doc 5 1/2oz
He was not a happy chappy but managable.

15/10/13 temp 5c weight 7lb-5 3/4oz at 8- 20am fed 4 doc 5 5/8oz.
Bated toward the mews door, waited for him to regain before pick up with threat postures, i ignore these he tries to intimidate must not let him gain any ground. He still hoods ok.

16/10/13 temp 12c weight 7lb- 5 3/4oz at 8-30am fed 4 doc 5 1/4oz
Resisted hood today distraction needed but went ok.

At the moment he's fed in the front garden tethered to a bow & jumps off the fist when unhooded i just leave him there with his food on the ground & move him to the back garden when finished.

17/10/13 temp 14c weight 7lb-5 1/2oz at 7-50am fed 4 doc 5 1/4oz
not bad today.

18/10/13 temp 12c weight 7lb-5 3/4oz at 8-30am fed 4 doc 4 5/8oz
I need some cold weather, very grippy on pick up hooded easily.

19/10/13 temp 15c weight 7lb-5 1/2oz at 8-30am fed 4 doc 4 5/8oz
grippy with a few lunging wing flaps to day.

20/10/13 temp 15c weight 7lb-5 3/8oz at 8-15am fed 4 doc 4 1/4oz
grippy pick up let him settle before hooding went well, wing flaps on scales,
used spray bottle after weighing, went for short walk before feeding.

21/10/13 temp 15c weight 7lb-4 1/2oz at 7-45am fed 3 doc 4oz,
bated towards me on opening up mews, loads of gripping & crouching on glove, looking hard down at the glove which made him easier to hood.

22/10/13 temp 16c weight 7lb-4 1/4oz at 7-50am fed 3 doc 4oz,
Increased aggression, iv found the spray bottle to be quite effective but occasionally use one of to other methods, a gentle pushing of the head into his shoulders or grasping his legs together with my right hand until he becomes calm but i am never rough with him but firm if you lose it the bird will know, i have found he responds better by keeping calm. Not always easy this one.

23/10/13 temp 15c weight 7lb- 4 1/2oz at 7-50am fed 3 doc 3 1/2oz,
tail feather fully down now.

24/10/13 temp 5c weight 7lb-3 1/2oz at 7-30am fed 3 doc 3 3/4oz,
his whole demeanor has changed to day, very easy day.

25/10/13 temp 15c weight 7lb-3 3/8oz at 8-00am fed 3 doc 3 1/2oz
resisted hood but generally ok, at the end of the day he jumps leash length for a tid bit, start rope training soon.

26/10/13 temp 16c weight 7lb-2 3/4oz at 8-55am fed 3 doc 3 1/4oz some
mild aggression to day but easily managed.

27/10/13 temp 13c weight 7lb- 2 1/4oz at 8-10am fed 3 doc 3 1/2oz,
got gloved finger & thumb clamped so had to hold jess's best i could with fingers & tie him to the glove before leaving mews, fairly easy to hood despite the wind blowing him all over the place, wing flapping & lurching on scales difficult weigh good spray before feeding.

28/10/13 temp 12c weight 7lb-1 7/8oz at 8-15am fed 3doc gutted 3 1/4oz three call off's on 12mm rope, 1 at 8yds, 2 at 16yds all went well, very pleased with his quick responses & behaviour despite the very strong winds.
