Tail bell for me every time mounted on a plectrum would'nt use a single feather mount and a track pack Goshawk

I would never consider a bell, telemetry or anything else but necessary furniture fitted to a birds leg. The legs and feet are the hawks weapons of war and should remain unencumbered as far as is possible. A boxer does not take to the ring wearing bracelets! In addition, the increased risk of snagging as the feet are thrown before anything else through cover, and into game outweighs any bell rattling advantage. I'll forever stick with tail mounted equipment, and avoid Morris Dancer soundtracks to my hawking.

Not flying! But then, it's a situation that's never come up! And for those who leg mount, what do you do when you don't have a a leg? A pair of decks is a much lower risk level than a tarsus.

100% convinced Barry

Her Deck feathers are coming through steady by the way, then straight On with a tail mount

Shes well back up to fat weight and hopefully those nice juicey quails will help speed her up a bit

Smile Re: Bewits or Tail Mount????

I always used to leg mount bells to my birds, useing button bewits. However over the past two consecutive years, one of my male harris hawks has taken to pulling out his centre deck feather which holds the telemetry tube mount, so now i have to leg mount the transmitter, therefore i only use one bell on him. over the past couple of seasons i have started to mount the bells differently, instead of useing bewits, i now simply punch a tiny hole on the anklet above the eyelet, and attach the bell with a small cable tie. Never had a problwith this method.
