Hi Steve, I fly him predominantly from the fist, but sometimes fly him following on,especially on windy days, when they don't like sitting on the fist to much, he is glued to the dog, so I have never found it encourages self hunting.

Left it a bit late today, didn't get out till 3:30. Dog pointed a cock bird, and he went off the first and chased it down the valley. Was right up its arse when I lost sight of him, crows were going crazy down the valley and walked down expecting to find him sat on it. When I got there the pheasant made a break for it out to cross the field, he came out of the tree and pulled it about 50 yards out into the field, not exactly what I wanted, but the Gos seemed happy enough!! Had a good day Saturday, two hen pheasants, took a friend out who wanted to see the Gos fly, caught the first one quite quickly after a flight from the fist over the dog pointing, pulling it out the air. Second one not so spectacular, another light of the fist over the dog pointing chased it out across the open fields, and the pheasant decided to take refuge in the top of an ash tree with the Gos in hot pursuit. He never even put the brakes on and just bound to it at full Speed in the top of the tree. He is going really well now the weather has got colder and his weight going up. Atb Chris

Was pushing my luck last night didn't get out until 345, gave up at about 4:25, after a couple of flights but no cigar, was heading home, when the dog went on point, I could see the hen squat in the grass in front of the dog, so thought what the hell. Chased it A good half a mile over three fields, and after a telemetry track down found him in the gateway plucking the hen. Got told off by the farmer, I explained who I was and what I was doing, then he gave me permission to fly on his ground. Happy days!!!

Was nearly late for the daughters school play, would've been in trouble had I missed her starring role as second sheep.

Interesting you get that bit extra light in the west. For me, when I was hawking in Essex, it would of been pitch black by the time you took that pic....

Well done again....Atb

Hi Chris,

Congrats on the Hen & new permission, I find it great how these things come around sometimes. I have a question for you about the bird. I'm guessing your emphasis on your time of flying hunting has something to do with this but have you noticed if the Goss is at a peak of focus or yarak? I know this is something quite typical with Accipiters & Longwings so was just wondering if this is something you see in your bird?

Happy Hawking,

Bradley
