Barrabas is into the brancher stage now, last night was the first night he spent outdoors, he has become a bit of a nuisance in the house climbing over the furniture and mucking the place up, i popped him in the van just before dark and collected him first thing this morning placing him into his 24in drainage pipe.
His nest box just fits snugly into the pipe, he is not confident enough to take flight out of there yet but a day or two now and i guess he will have to be tethered.
he is getting maximum exposure where he is to a wide range of vehicles that pass the house and he is taken out twice a day with the dogs when i excersize them, he is quite a pale bird but not as light as his brother i had off vernon last year.

Nice pics Keith, he looks a really nice bird mate, one of his brothers is quite dark with nice size feet, Vernon was saying the female looks dark as well on as far as he can tell on from the camera???

members of the south east ireland falconers and austringers association met at knockanore co.waterford today attending the village fete bringing a few hawks owls and falcons with them, i took barrabas along he behaved impeccably considering the large crowds including hurling games ducking stool, fire engines vintage parade and lots of girls with multicoloured frocks passing by, some photos of the static display and barrabas.
ross and adam ricken came along bringing his imprint female hiccup, another rock steady imprint taking all the action in going on during the day

It was beautiful weather and it was a nice display of a variety of birds.
Was nice to meet ollie and his family and his super cool eagle owl!
Barrabas and hiccup took it all in and were very settled considering all that was going on

Barrabas is about to start his basic training, he has been fed ad lib in the back garden along with some other hawks he has been weathered with, yesterday we moved him into the front garden and introduced him to his ring perch, he has been bowed out most of the time up until now, he is a quick learner as he was soon jumping from the floor to the perching surface.
he has been fed mostly woodpigeon and rats, as from tomorrow he will be introduced to the lure for all his food, this will be rabbit and perhaps some chick.
He is walked out on excersise with six dogs twice a day and is quite steady around them, i will be taking him out on his training sessions once wedded to the lure and trying him on the kite for fitness training.
my female peregrine is going up now so it wont be too much bother to do another hawk while the kite is up there, it should be fun!
some recent photos of barrabas.
