Default A new kind of hunt for eagles

Hunting Drones : Dutch police to train eagles to take out drones from the sky

One solution to illegal drones is pretty low tech...
Though there are some concerns about the Drones blades that might seriously hurt the eagle

Personally, I think this is a pretty stupid idea. I'm pretty heavily invested in the model boat scene and there's a lot of overlap with other RC stuff. Sure, an eagle will take out most toy grade drones and UAVs with no issue but there are a lot of upgrades out there and you can build very powerful machines relatively cheaply (last year at a big model show I saw first person quadcopter racing in the flesh for the first time and even those tiny things could do at least seventy).

Although it's far more likely for some idiot who bought themselves a plane that flies itself to be a nuisance rather than a hobbyist or professional, I think it wouldn't be too long before a bird gets really badly hurt. We all know how bad foot injuries are.

Also it strikes me as a very odd thing to do. While potentially effective, there are most certainly more sensible solutions. There's also a small risk to the public if the bird knocks the thing out of the air without being able to carry it. A fair number of these, especially with the underslung cameras could do some serious damage if it lands on someone.

Anyone who condones this is a prized prat.

Sort of thing that fool Jonathan Marshall would promote.
