Default Brown hare hawking

I thought I would like to share some pics from Austria with you. But first I would like to give you a bit an impression about hunting here:
We have no own hunting ground so we are dependent on invitations to our falconry club from other hunting grounds. From each owner of a hunting ground who invites us we get the possibility to got out on a specific date for one day. If there is bad weather it is more or less bad luck for us.
We always go in two groups one with all the falcons and dogs on pheasants. The second one goes with without dogs and with Harris Hawks, Goshawks and bonelli’s eagles on rabbits or brown hares.
Unfortunately we have hardly any chance to go out on rabbits. (In the last two years just one possible day). We are mostly invited to hawk brown hares. Last year (which was very good) we had 17 invitations. But on 4 day the wind was that strong that the birds of our falconry club had no chance to catch something.
Last season my female Harris Hawk Dyami (1.5 years) managed to catch 21 brown hares (only the bonelli’s eagle caught the same amount ) and by hunting in a cast she supported another FHH 8 times in catching a brown hare.
And our male Harris Hawk Fips caught one brown hare on his own as well. But he is mainly flying in a cast with the girls

(I hope you can understand my English. I’m unfortunately not really aware of the specific terms for falconry and hunting in English)

First brown Hare of the season:

The second one caught in strong wind.

Barbara you do have an exceptionally good hawk. Can you please tell us more about her? Like where she came from, who bred her and say flying weights?

Thanks again Paul
