Amazing stuff!

Trying to think of the logistics of getting up there from Southern Spain with my hawk

What is the best time of year to go?

Yes they do, but not normally with much vigour. However, back in early December, for the first time in all my years of eagle falconry, my 17 year old female Golden Eagle took a grouse which rose under her as part of a covey when they were flushed by a fleeing hare!

With no hills to spoil the views in Essex, of course I do Steve!

Much depends on what type of hawk and what quarry you're looking for.

Then, with your very best plans and timing carefully considered, Scotlands weather is as unpredictable as a Trump presidency. It can wreck a week just for fun!

We used to go into the hills for single weeks at the time, but weather really can ruin an entire week mixing low cloud and mist with rain or snow. The snow can block vehicle tracks or make other access to the hill near on impossible and it breaks your heart looking out at all that inaccessible opportunity. Now we rarely risk single weeks and take two week trips or even 3 weeks.

All that said, the last trip up which finished just last Saturday saw us entrenched for 2 weeks straight and we didn't lose a single days hawking to weather, so I guess you pay your money and take your choice.

Barry.
