Well I finally took the plunge and did it I got myself an imprint male Goshawk from our very own Terry Burden @ Kentish falconry. I have always been a friend of Terry's since joining the forum many years ago and we have always kept in touch.

Over the years I have seen Terry build a very very nice stock of Goshawk, so when I was invited to come and look @ these particular chicks I could not resist one.

Gladys is still suffering from some toe inflamation and this has had an impact on her moult the likelyhood so the vet as said is that amputation of the toe will be the only way of keeping down the swelling so flying her this year was going to be unlikely.

In a way I thought I would skip this season and just do a bit of dog work for others and build up my strength from the treatment I have been having. Then I thought KNOW WAY I am going for one of these babys. So Sam my beloved drove me to kent on Friday and I had a very hard decision to pick a chick( I still believe Terry has a couple left and they are cracking chicks as well nice big lumpy things.

Anyway after much deliberation I decided on Ken. It is all a learning curve to me being my first imprint, but I have decided to follow Jims(Outflying) advise and hope I can get something as good as Flynn. Socialsing is a joy where I live we 60 kids with behaviour problems who all turn as meek as lambs when it comes to my livestock.

Ken, has been left with food 24/7 and today was the first time he did not eat as much as he has been doig but I put that down to pheasant meat minced with rat. He like quail minced with rat and loves venison and duck or the really dark meat.

I took him outside today for the first time since having him and introduced him to a variety of things all of which was fast moving, colourful and noisy. The thing that startled him most was Stella rushing past him at 100 mph, but it showed later in the day how he had adjusted by pecking her ear lol.

This Gos will be bomb proof I hope I do believe I have a pr bird that is more steady to most things than any imprint. I hope I can get Kentish Ken to be as steady.

He will be flown hard at game throughout the season and a lot of past preperation has gone into getting the game where I need it.

So hopefully with some great, top advise off Jim, and time and effort from myself I can come up with a worthy Goshawk.

I will keep this thread ongoing.

Big thanks to Terry for producing some marvalous Goshawks, and if anyone is on the lookout for one I would give him a bell and snap the other couple up.

I think Ken is 18 days old today. Weighed him yesterday with a bit of a crop he was 570g

Some Pics of the kentishh

Joe , not sure im keen on the red head comming through mate.. , its maybe a hybrid ?? , anyhow one thing , you will certainly give the bird a good shot , as against one season or less ,as we see with others , enjoyed our craic yesterday........Col
