Default Different style aylmeri anklets?

Hay there

After reading the best Jesse's thread i have had a idea, of a different style of anklet.

Here is a quick pic of one Ive made (yes i know i haven't put the holes in for the eyelet yet) they are made with one piece of leather, no glue or cheating!
(i have used some not so good leather to make it, as I'm not wasting my good stuff )

This is just a idea, i am not planing on using it on a bird!!!!!!!!

I want peoples opinions of it, and if they are good i will post how to make them.

All comments welcome!!!

Adam

It might invert into the lag scales but it's good to experiment with stuff.
I think the 'traditional' anklet with little slits to allow the edges to roll outwards would be hard to beat...but keep trying! Michael.

Thank you Michael

I do like the proper ones, they are great
But just felt like experimenting!

I can not think of any good reasons why they are better than normal ones and not to sure of any bad ones. i need help in finding the good and bad points of them.

i would not recommend anyone to use these on any bird (YET) !!!!

Well here's something for you to work on...

See if you can come up with a safe but strong design that can be easily 'slipped' off the tarsus quickly, a bit like a greyhound/lurcher collar.

Now that is something I'll be really interested in as I fly rehab falcons and at some stage, I'm not bothered if they don't come back!

Michael.

As Mike says, it is fun to experiment, but don't try to re-invent the wheel
There is various reasons why those are not a good idea..

good point Jim!

Ive just thought of a bad thing about them!

a hawk could get cough up in them with the other foots talons getting stuck between the plats,
thats a relay bad one! one so bad that i think they shouldn't be used!

as i say
DO NOT USE THEM ON ANY BIRD !!!!
Adam

P.s. just to say where i got the idea from was from scout woggles that Ive made with my scouts. I'm not throwing it away, will just give it to one of the scouts as a new woggle (for non scout people woggles go on the scout's necker to stop it falling off)

Surely not Rob? Any one can turn leather inside itself a couple of times then straighten it out I'll tell you what I do struggle with though....when a chainsaw blade gets inverted on itself and creates a loop and every time you turn it back out another one instantly appears!

Sorry mate...I'm bored!

If you are bored Tom, try to figure out how to stitch the box loops on a driving bridle.
