Arrow Famous Falconry Quotes

Just thought I'd start this thread up and see what happens. Add your famous quotes (or original ones that might become famous). Funny or not funny. See what we can all come up with.

This is probably in the wrong section, so maybe a kind mod might move it someplace sensible. TY.

I'll start..dug out a couple:

"If you love something set it free, If it doesn't come back, hunt it down"
Author Unknown

"Beware the Soft voiced Owl, the ferret's smile, The hawks deliberate stoop in air. Cold eyes and bodies hooped in steel, Forever bent upon the kill"
Poem by Geoffrey Hill

"A satisfactory hobby must be in a large degree useless, inefficient, laborious, or irrelevant...all in all, falconry is the perfect hobby. " Aldo Leopold

Lets keep this going get some nice ones.

"I do invite you to-morrow morning
to my house to breakfast;
after, we'll a-birding together.
I have a fine hawk for the bush."
The Merry Wives of Windsor, III, iii, 243.

Shakespeare

There's a fair few Shakespeare ones about.

The Scot's will love this one!

"For once the eagle , England being in prey,
To her unguarded nest the weasel Scot
Comes sneaking, and so sucks her princely eggs."
Henry V. Act i. Scene 2.

Here's one from Irish Origins:

Turning and turning in the widening gyre,
The falcone cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world...
W. B. Yeats, the second coming

"Verily, doth she weigh too much,
She scorneth the knavely lure and in pursuit of herne,
She covets the heavens and soars on high,
What care she for her master cast so low,
When all before her is her own heart's delight?
Come, let us sit upon the ground and whisper lightly,
"DAMN AND BLAST THAT BLOODY HAWK!"

(Mattspar circa 1542).

I let my Hawk fly free today
And, just like that!!..she flew away!
There's no way she'll return to me
I wish I'd bought telemetry!!

I get both those quotes all the time. Infact, at displays you can always tell when you have a falconer in the crowd as instead of asking how heavy the bird is? They ask "what weight does it fly at"?

A dead give away!
