I have been trying to get two males entered one is 30 weeks old and the other is 1 1/2 years old. Both have been out all this season hunting and both hit the dummy bunny well but soon as they see a real rabbit they are not interested both have fed off a fresh rabbit and I have changed the dummy bunny for a real one (Dead) but they will not have it. I even have a electric running rabbit wich most birds find to attractive. I have never known them to take this long before!!!! The weight is right for both of them. Anyone else had a problem with males before? If so any tips would be aprecated.

He's loaded it onto the Harris Hawks sub thread so I assume it's a Harris?

I had the same trouble this year with my male Harris. He started catching bunnies after I took him out with my female. She showed him how to do it. Do you have anyone you can go out with who has a proven hunter?

They both have been watching females all season catching.

sounds like a weight thing to me!prob hasnt got the fire to chase and kill.but yet chases the dummy for the fun of it!i dont know the weiight of the bird and im not about to tell you what it should weigh that would be inpossible but if i was you and they are good size males id knock 1/4 of a ounce off see if that helps can always put it back up if not.rabbits will be strong at this time of the year tho.

I would take one hawk out at a time on its own, if they have been watching females catch rabbits all season & not catching anything themselves but still getting a reward at the end of the day they will be thinking "Whats the point" i will let the females do all the donkey work & still get fed, they are not daft. I had them same problem when i was flying a male & my brother was flying a female, it would let her catch the quarry & occasionally assist her but wouldnt go for the quarry itself. As soon as it was flown on its own & made a kill its attitude totally changed towards hunting when it realised it could catch prey on its own. I assume they are both down for the moult now so would keep feeding them as many full rabbits as you can through the moult, then next season they will more than likely nail the first bunny they see. Cheers, Rich
